Food distribution to Migrant workers during COVID-19 Pandemic
We all anticipated the arrival of a new year, hoping it would bring us bliss and joy. However, the year 2020 took us all by storm when the global coronavirus pandemic emerged.
Even though many people may not have been directly affected by the virus, the lockdown of entire cities has led to economies suffering as a whole, leaving people unemployed and with no source of income.
In our city, Bangalore, many individuals do not have enough food and money to sustain themselves, leaving them in a troubled state.
Seeing their plight, Dhyeya decided to join a group of young people distributing food and water to the workers present in a colony near Majestic, a locality in Bangalore on the 23rd of May, 2020.We funded the purchase of bananas for the various workers and distributed them among the people. As we entered their little colony with scattered houses, children began gleaming with joy; they seemed ecstatic. The adults and parents all came out of their minuscule houses and were extremely grateful to receive the food packets, bananas and water bottles. As we looked behind the people, we saw the crumbling and stained walls; what they called home were merely dilapidated buildings to our eyes.Still, they seemed content with what they had, everybody seemed to appreciate the fact that they had a roof over their heads, to them that was enough, that and well, food.
We continued to walk through small alleyways where we heard constant chattering among people. They pointed at us as we began distributing the food, desperate to get the packets of food. What was distinctly remembered by us, was an old man running after us as he missed the dispersal of the food; after we gave it to him, he was truly thankful and happy. This little trip to the colony near Majestic will forever be remembered by us, it reminds us of how blessed we are, and of how we can always help those who are not as privileged as we are.
